In the case of the Hue and Cry, detectives were challenged by the killer of a cafe owner - a killer who entered the cafe with a gun, ordered the owner to empty the till and then shot him anyway. It wasn't a mystery murder of the story writing type, but it was a mystery - and typical of at least 90% of the homicides detectives of American cities are called upon to investigate.
