Only old-timers in New Plymouth remember that Lettie isn’t a member of Clark Atwell’s family. They recall the day Clark brought Lettie to the farm from the orphanage. She was to take care of Clark’s wife Helen who’d just had her fourth child. Lettie was just 15 then but old for her age. That was twenty years ago and now the Atwell children were grown up. As Thanksgiving is approaching Helen thinks that Lettie may like to go and spend it with her family, her brother but in Lettie’s heart the Atwell’s are her family.
