When the railroad was being built through the west, the center of activity was the town at the end of track. It was a temporary community, of light shacks and tents, and could be picked up and moved ahead periodically as the work progressed. In addition to quarters for the railroad workers and their families, there were shops, store and cafes. Various traders, as well as gamblers, confidence men and crooks, moved with the town. Brad Carter was in charge of construction for the railroad, and he felt fine as he relaxed with his friends and colleagues, and discussed a crook named Ted Sloan who they had recently fired from the railroad. Problem was, Ted Sloan held a grudge - and he was a coming for Carter, no doubt about that...
