Donna Rollins had hired Philip Marlowe by special delivery letter that afternoon including $50 to be sure that one Arnold Latimore was going where he had said he was going. When he was unable to locate Latimore he went to Donna Rollins to return her $50 but she seemed strangely unconcerned about Latimore but with a nervousness that aroused Marlowe’s suspicion.
