Miss Dowdy lives in an enormous rambling house built like an Italian villa. She writes to George Valentine asking him to investigate a man named Professor Gifford and the reason was that he was liable to buy the house that belonged to the late Betty O’Casey known as Ireland Betty and which was willed to Betty’s niece Christine.
