In one part of the city three days ago one of the banks most trusted employees walked away with a master key to the safe deposit boxes so that someone would know he was alive. In another part of the City Sam who has worked tending the Garden of Arts for over twenty years is waiting to hear if he has the transfer his wife made him put in for. A young honeymooning couple visit the garden, the beautiful neglected garden which becomes the central point for the characters in the story.
