Fred Allen Asks Jack to Appear on His Program

Broadcast: May 19, 1946
Added: Jun 10 2023

Jack Benny is back in New York, and he has received a telegram from Fred Allen inviting his friend and fellow comedian Jack Benny to be his guest star. The two men had a long and friendly rivalry, and they often poked fun at each other on their respective programs. On this night, they traded barbs about their age, their wealth, and their wives. They also performed some of their classic routines. Allen did his "The Old Man" routine, in which he played a grumpy old man who is constantly complaining about the world around him. Benny did his "The Jack Benny Program" routine, in which he played a stingy and self-absorbed millionaire.
