When Clyde Conway escaped from prison, it was a great disappointment to the Lone Ranger, who knew him to be innocent of the crime for which he had been convicted and sentenced. To Tonto, his Indian friend, the masked rider escaped the folly of Conway's escape, as the two rode slowly side-by-side. If caught, he would be sent back to prison, even though they could prove his innocence, and had already sent this proof to the governor. However, Conway didn't know anything about this, and so had decided to escape. It was a big mistake, and the Lone Ranger was concerned that he might commit a bigger crime to avoid recapture.
