H G Wells was a writer of many worlds. Indeed, even of a war between worlds. He takes us now to a world of iron works, a red hot hell of the blast furnaces where metal is melted and rolled, and the sky filled with smoke and black dust. Men with unrecognizable faces stoke the fires, puddle the iron and keep the mills rolling. Into this world of industry, there arrives one John Roth, a writer for a magazine.
