A gusty wind swept across the Missouri river and drove a cold and slanting rain across the sodden town of Willow Landing. Tonto, the faithful Indian companion of the Lone Ranger, made his way carefully through the darkness of a narrow, twisting street. Suddenly, he sensed rather than saw, the figures of two men struggling on the wooden sidewalk a few steps ahead. A moment later, the sound of a weak cry made him drop the sack he was carrying and rush forward!
