In his search for news a reporter has the curiosity of a cat and the imagination of an inventor. He is constantly asking why. If he cannot explain why something has happened and if he is turned aside with a no comment he has only one recourse – consider what facts he has, fit them in to a pattern and then imagine the missing pieces. Then he writes his article, we accept his facts and we indulge his speculations.
