Joe Young sat on the bunk in his cell at the territorial prison, waiting for the guard to unlock the door and take him to the warden's office. The day he had long waited for - the day of his release - had finally arrived. Five years behind bars had seemed like an eternity to Joe, who was still young at twenty-seven years old, but the prison pallor and the expression in his eyes made him seem older. Joe sat with his head in his hands, thinking of that time five years ago, when he had stood with all eyes upon him and listened to the judge sentence him to prison. He had never forgotten that moment, and had lived through it many times in his sleep - even as he was living through it once more at the moment of his release.
