Grandpappy tells Abner that everybody is talking about the mysterious box and the lack of contents in it. They are suspicious of Lum and say that he could've opened the box, stolen any valuables in it and returned it with the envelope. Abner stands up for his friend saying that Lum never stole nothing from nobody.
