Bob Cary and his widowed mother owned a small ranch, which, because of the lack of necessary cash, they found difficult to keep up. A neighboring ranch - the Bar M spread - was large and prosperous. One day, Sally Miller, the daughter of the Bar M owner, was visiting Mrs Cary, when Bob entered the small ranch house. He was excited after finding a way to keep the cash flowing at the ranch - driving 500 cattle to the nearby Fort, where the Army have posted that they'll pay top dollar for the first to arrive.
