It was Robert Burns who said "man's inhumanity to man makes countless thousands mourn". Some people all unaware seem marked for tragedy. Like Letitia Meredith, nee Henderson, a bride who never had a chance to be a wife, and who was marked for such tragedy and such haunting interference in her attempt to bind up her wounds and forget that she might have been Electra, or any other of those doomed women in a Greek tragedy... The first interference in her life was fate, not man.
