J. B Kendall was in Cheyenne in the vast cattle ranching area. Two days after his arrival he met Kerry Chase who was the editor and owner of the daily press who insisted he join him at the Cheyenne club for lunch. Kendall was here to write about his countrymen and Chase told him about Buck Wharton who was just about the richest man in the entire west said to be worth about $10 million just from cattle. Chase told him Buck would make a good story but it depended on whether he liked you or not.
