Kirk Douglas reprises his 1949 film role as boxer Midge Kelly. When Midge is hustled, unprepared, into a boxing match, he ends up losing, badly. Although he's a real mess, boxing manager Tommy Haley sees his potential, and approaches him about training at Brady's Gym in Los Angeles. Midge is too sore to take the offer seriously and brushes him off - but later the ambitious boxer falls back on the only option, where he rises to fame - mainly by stepping on other people...
