The Sheriff of Frontier Town, went through the mail that had just been received. Most of it consisted of hand bills and bulletins. Then he came to a letter in a woman's handwriting. As he read it, his face lighted with interest, and he leaped to his feet, left his office, and hurried to Mother Willard's boarding house where Dan Reid had been staying. The lawman knew Dan as a friend of the Lone Ranger, but neither he nor anyone else realized that the fourteen-year-old boy was actually the masked man's nephew. The Sheriff wanted to know if Dan could contact the Lone Ranger and Tonto quickly, in response to the letter, which was from a girl called Rosita who used to work in Happy Jack's restaurant. She had helped the Lone Ranger (disguised as a caballero named Don Miguel) to collar the Dundee Gang, and now she was asking for Don Miguel's help again, in a place on the border called La Paloma.
