Dodge had been real quiet that week then on Friday afternoon Matt had been visiting a rancher friend and it was nearly midnight when he got back to find Chester and Doc at the centre of a crowd crouched over a man who had been shot. It was Ben Williams a real nice guy and before he died he kept trying to say something about a town called Elkader. Matt recognized the name as where Ben came from. Kitty told Matt that Ben had called the man Lou Shipping before he left the saloon and went out in to the street. Ben didn’t even draw his gun before Shipping shot him twice and rode off.
