It came as no surprise when the movie 'Breaking the Sound Barrier' won several academy awards in 1953, and this particular Lux radio show is a terrific adaptation of the film - a story with all of the ingredients for a blockbuster - full of excitement, daring, romance and heartbreak. Britain is portrayed at its stiff upper lip best, with the tale of a man's overpowering obsession with speed, and a wealthy oil magnate's ambition to succeed in building the first jet capable of breaking the sound barrier.
