Jack Barbour's car turns through the public gates to Seacliff on the pleasant dusk of an April evening. It approaches the Barbour house, but then drives past it, and a few minutes later pulls to a stop at the handsome residence of Nicholas Lacey, six blocks straight down. Father Barbour is there to visit Penelope, who he is extremely proud of!
