He was standing at the head of the line of prisoners as he always did on visitor's day, but this time he didn't smile at the guard, pick up his card and move casually on toward the wire wickets at the far end of the room. This time he stood paralyzed, rooted before the battered oak desk staring at the man who sat behind it.
