Dan Reid, the fourteen year old nephew of the Lone Ranger, had gone by stage to visit friends in a town some distance away, and was returning by stagecoach to join the Lone Ranger and Tonto in their camp near Sand Rock. As the stage moved along the trail a few miles from Sand Rock, Dan talked to a man who was the only other occupant of the coach. After arriving in Sand Rock, Dan and Mr Bentley made a report about the robbery to the Sheriff, before Mr Bentley continued his long journey to Pecos. Meanwhile, Dan rode to meet the Lone Ranger, and told them about the belt buckle, and the posse that the Sheriff was sending out to hunt down the outlaws. The Lone Ranger headed off to town, so Dan went for a ride up into the hills, where he unfortunately bumped into the outlaw who was now wearing the belt buckle...
