As the Yukon Queen, one of the largest steam packets to carry passengers and cargo between the Yukon and the States, moved along the mighty Yukon river on its way from Selkirk to Dawson City, Sergeant Preston arose from the bunk in his cabin after a refreshing nap. It was spring of 1898, and the boat was making its first trip back to the States.
