It was late afternoon when the Lone Ranger, with his nephew Dan Reid and their Indian friend, Tonto, halted their mounts at a spring that prickled from a rocky ledge. The plan was to camp their for a few days, whilst the Lone Ranger made inquiries about Stinger Cane. There was an odor of wild honey in the air, and Dan was looking forward to finding the hive with Tonto, but whilst eating the treasured amber nectar, Dan complained of a pain in his tooth. He had some swelling too, so the Lone Ranger instructed him to head into town with Tonto to find a doctor to fix him up. Meanwhile, night had fallen, and three men had hitched their horses outside the cafe. It was none other than Stinger Cane, and he was planning on holding up the cafe...
