Andrew Johnson was President of the United States from 1865 – 1869. The time of our story tonight was 1868. Andrew Johnson was the only President who had ever been impeached, the campaign against him was one of the most vicious ever waged against a president but he won acquittal. It isn’t general realised that his fight against the few political schemers completely smashed their plans.
