Abner's life as the mayor's husband, reached a new low when he was forced to prepare supper for Elizabeth, and then at the last minute Elizabeth telephoned to say she was bringing home a couple of the girls from the office for dinner. Abner is certain now that something must be done to persuade his wife to give up her job, and Lum is confident that his current plan will accomplish this in a fairly peaceable way.
