Today's episode is based on the Arthur Conan Doyle story The Adventure of the Devil's Foot, but it is set in Cardiff, Wales, instead of England. Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson are called to investigate a series of strange occurrences at a coal mine in Cardiff. Miners are going mad, and some have even died. Holmes and Watson soon discover that the miners are being driven mad by a mysterious gas that is emanating from the mine.
