The most northerly in the original chain of California's missions, and the last to be erected by the devoted followers of Padre Serra and Padre Lasuén, was the Sonoma Mission. Here, in 1846, in a building across the plaza, the historic raising of the bear flag proclaimed the California revolt against the Mexican governor.
