Two riders approach the horse corral near Fort Anderson. They are scoping out the area with a mind to robbing the corral of the horses the government keep at the ranch - about a mile away from the Fort. The troopers in the area have been having trouble with the natives, and Chief Black Bear is camped up in the smoky river, hopping mad because he hasn't had the supplies delivered, which he was promised by the government. Lefty's idea is to stir up some trouble between the troopers and the natives, distracting them, and leaving the corral wide open for them to steal the horses.
