Your Favorite Entertainer of the Troops
In our most recent poll, you guys and gals voted Bob Hope as your favorite entertainer of the troops during World War II, by a HUGE margin!
It's not a surprise really - because the man was a legend!
I was talking to my elderly neighbor today (he'll swat me for saying that hehe...), reminiscing about times gone by, as you do, and we got to talking about the genius who was Bob Hope.
Dave said he remembered a sketch from a movie, with Bob and James Cagney tap dancing on a table. He couldn't remember the movie, but said that he'd 'dialled in on the internet' to watch the clip many, many, times, and that it included the song Yankee Doodle Dandy.
His reason for watching the clip many, many times? Because, he said "it always puts a big smile on my face."
I couldn't figure out what movie he was talking about, but you can be sure that when I came in and sat in front of the computer, it was the first thing I searched for! After all, a clip of something which can put a smile on someone's face would surely be a lovely thing to share with everyone.
So, as it turns out, the movie is called The Seven Little Foys, and the scene Dave was talking about really is outstanding. I mean, is there anything Bob Hope couldn't do? He even managed to live for 100 years!
You can watch the clip of the two fellas dancing in The Seven Little Foys by clicking here. Or alternatively, there is a radio show from the series Best Of All, which is a salute to the soundtrack of the motion picture.
If you'd like to read more about Bob Hope's life, here's also a link to an editorial I wrote on his 100th birthday, back in 2003.
Do you have any favorite Bob Hope memories from radio, television or motion picture? I'd love to hear about them! You can add them in the comments below ⬇⬇⬇
Happy listening my friends,
