Young Forever

Young Forever

It's the Memorial Day weekend, and most of us will have fun plans, enjoying the first taste of summer, hitting the mall to grab a bargain in the sales, entertaining with friends or family, or just relaxing at home - perhaps watching the National Memorial Day Concert on PBS - did you know The Beach Boys are performing this year?!

In the Norris household, Joy's planning a picnic for Monday, and she's put me in charge of which old time radio shows we'll be listening to whilst we're eating treats and lazing around. And of course, I'd love to share those shows with you too!

I have put a special page together, so that you can sit back and relax whilst enjoying listening to these classic shows.

Here's the link:-

And don't forget, there's also the World at War radio station available on RUSC here.

Now, you may have wondered why I chose the title of this editorial to be 'Young Forever'. Well it was a double purpose really... I felt it to be a poignant way to remember the fallen men and women who have paid the ultimate price for their country, but it was also to remember another of our recently fallen veterans. Alan Young.

One of our oldest members, Grandpa Chet, sent me a lovely email this week. It read:-

Just heard the sad news. Alan Young has passed on.

Best known for his roles as Wilbur in Mr Ed and Scrooge McDuck in Duck Tales, he was also the first Mr Terrific (the pilot), had the last word in George Pal's the Time Machine, and was genuinely the nice guy he appeared to be. Loved his fans, kept up a website, and of course starred in the Alan Young Show with Jim Backus as his nemesis - right here on RUSC.

Thank you for keeping him alive.

*jeep! and God Bless!

~~Grandpa Chet

As Chet mentioned, you can listen to the series, The Alan Young Show, on RUSC here.

Happy listening my friends,

Ned Norris

P.S. Don't forget that you can listen to RUSC on your cellphone too. Browse the site, read editorials, add shows to your playlist, download or listen live at m.rusc.com (if you're using an iPhone/Smartphone etc)
