Wondering Why Easter Is So Early This Year?

Easter the oldest and most important Christian festival normally falls in the month of April. In fact Easter comes from the Anglo-Saxon name for the month of April which, was Eostremonath.

So why does Easter fall so early this year, 2008? Easter is known as the moveable feast because the date changes each year depending on the lunar calendar. Easter always falls on the first Sunday following the full moon either on or after the spring equinox on the 21st March. This year the full moon falls on Friday 21st March, which is why, Easter Sunday, is so early this year.

In the next fifteen years Easter only falls in March in two of those years and then at the very end of March and apparently it will not be as early this year again until the year 2030!

On Good Friday I will add a wonderful Family Theater production with Miss Ethel Barrymore in a dramatic narration of The Passion and Death of Christ and on Easter Sunday I will add the Jack Benny Program episode entitled Easter Parade and if that is not enough here are some shows that Joy and I have put together with the spirit of Easter to help you enjoy your Easter Holiday weekend.

Happy listening my friends,

Ned Norris
