Shows For Independence Day Fourth July 2010

To help you celebrate the Fourth July we have 3 fantastic shows to add to RUSC.

The Cavalcade of America once again educates and entertains us with their story Portrait of an Author. It is a story about Thomas Jefferson who more than any other figures in his time epitomized the American dream of freedom and self-government. It tells the tale of his part in the writing of the Declaration of Independence.

On Family Theater Gale Storm introduces the drama The Stephen Foster Story, a story of America’s most beloved composer Stephen Collins Foster who was born on July 4, 1826 fifty years after the signing of the declaration of independence the same day that the 2nd president of the United states, John Adams and the third President of the United States Thomas Jefferson both died.

Stephen Foster is famous for writing songs that reached deep in to the heart of people. He made America sing for he gave us music of our own songs which are as popular today as they were all that time ago immortal songs such as Old Folks At Home (Swannee River), Oh! Susanna, De Camptown Races and My Old Kentucky Home.

Stephen Foster died on January 13, 1864 and today his statue stands with Adams and Jefferson in the Hall of Fame for Great Americans.

Finally but not least we have lined up a Favorite Story written by Edward Everett Hale in 1863.The Man Without A Country is something you will never forget. It is the poignant story of the unfortunate Philip Nolan a young American Lieutenant who forfeited his right to have a home or a country.

Although the story is historical fiction it is based on events and characters at the time of the civil war. Touchingly patriotic the part of Philip Nolan is excellently portrayed by John Beal, be prepared to be moved to tears.

And if that isn’t enough Joy and I have put together a list of shows relating to the Fourth of July all for listening enjoyment.
