Parents' Day Sunday - 22nd July 2012

Parents' Day

Sunday 22nd July 2012

Well on Sunday it's Parents' Day and while I was listening to an episode of Family Theater broadcast in 1947 on RUSC I couldn't help feeling that the introduction spoken by Eddie Cantor could quite easily have been written today.

He began, This is a very busy world in which we live whether you’re in Hollywood or New York it’s just the same you find people rushing around here and there back and forth.

You call up a friend to say hello before you get half way through telling him your troubles he says, “but I’m too busy to talk now”. Your friends are too busy to call, your relatives too busy to write. Everybody’s too busy, yes sometimes too busy to do a lot things like being kind and thoughtful, too busy to be smiling and cheerful or lend a helping hand to those who need it and many homes are unhappy because parents haven’t time for their children, haven’t time to get together as a family. Why? Well they’re too busy that’s all.

We need a little more time out folks, yes all of us especially at home. We’d have a lot happier homes if people took the time out for home life together.

I guess we all talk about the good old days when life was simpler and people more caring but it seems our memory can play tricks on us and maybe we weren't too different back then after all. So today, this Parents' Day why not take the time out to spend with your family or call up a friend, maybe take some time together sharing a show and going down memory lane.

As one old-time-radio fan and member of RUSC puts it, what else is really cool is otr has given my parents and me something to share and talk about.

I hope that we can do a little to unite your family with a wonderful shared experience. Have a great day!

Happy listening my friends,

Ned Norris
