Old Time Advertisements

Remember I just said last week that we haven't had any advertising on RUSC in over twenty years... Well that's about to change!

Don't panic though, there's not going to be any annoying adverts popping up! But did you know that on RUSC we have a whole page of old time radio advertisements?

There are nearly one hundred and twenty in all, covering everything from Alka Seltzer (plop-plop-fizz-fizz) through to Winston Cigarettes.

I've also put up an extract from Maltin's book The Great American Broadcast.

I think it sums up nicely how powerful and influential the sponsors were whilst at the same time providing us with an insight as to how radio ushered in a whole new form of advertising that marketing executives would now refer to as above-the-line or indirect advertising.

And if that's not enough advertising for you, there's also a heap of commercials in MP3 format for you to listen to. I'm sure they'll bring back many happy memories!
