Well it’s the time of the year when Joy and I decided to take a vacation on the East coast beginning with a trip to the Big Apple. We had a great few days visiting Liberty Island, Ellis Island and going up the monumental Empire State Building but after hours of waiting in line for the pleasure we have decided to rename it Queue York! We planned on escaping the city in Central Park but the weather changed and it rained a whole day.

Following that we ventured down to Washington to explore the monuments taking in the Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, the White House and a very poignant visit to Arlington Cemetery and the tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Kennedy Family Grave Sites.

Apparently it hasn’t rained in Washington for over a month but Thursday 23rd July certainly made up for it. We got completely soaked! Having had as much as we could take of big cities we decided to head for Shenandoah National Park, which is where we are right now.

It is truly beautiful here in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Give us the views here than those from the skyscrapers any day. We were delighted along the skyline drive on the way to Skyland Lodge by the sight of two young black bears and many white tailed deers.

I am sitting now taking in the far-reaching views as I try to check my email. If you have emailed Joy or I over the past few days please accept my apologies, if I have not yet replied. The Internet connection is low here. I will do my best to respond once I can get a decent connection.

On another note I guess unless you have been on the moon lately you will know that it is 40 years since Neil Armstrong, Edward “Buzz” Aldrin and Michael Collins landed on the moon in 1969.

Man had been dreaming of and writing about landing on the moon years before the momentous occasion and there are many stories of this to be heard from old-time-radio. As I am writing this I am listening to Guy Lombardo performing Me and The Man In The Moon from 1928!

So if you are still in the mood for Moon mania for shows from the golden age of radio featuring moon and space exploration be sure to listen to X Minus One and Dimension X.

Happy listening my friends,

Ned Norris
