New Series: Jerry at Fair Oaks
Nearly two years ago I added a new series to RUSC. It was little known series called Jerry of the Circus and was originally broadcast in 1937/38. Each episode of Jerry of the Circus is approximately 15 minutes long. The stories are set around characters of the circus and their lives. In the very first episode we were introduced to the star of the show. Young Jerry turned up at the circus in search of Sam Randall the circus boss. Randall told him they had no jobs at present, but Jerry gave him a letter from his late father Tim Duggan. Sam Randall knew Tim from years ago as "a great showman". He read the letter, "If things don’t break and I’m gone before you get here take care of the kid. He’s been brought up with horses, the circus is in his blood."
After thirty-two-and-a-half-hours worth of serial adventures, one-hundred-and-thirty fifteen minute episodes, Jerry's career at the circus has finally come to an end and he is preparing for new pastures.
If you've become attached to young Jerry, and I know quite a few of you have over the past couple of years, you'll be pleased to know that on Thursday you can continue following his exploits in a brand new series on RUSC called Jerry at Fair Oaks.
It is now time for Jerry to go to school so Randall, as his legal guardian, enrolls him at Fair Oaks military college. The first episode introduces us to his roommate, cadet Phillips, who takes us round the camp and gives us an insight of cadet life. The subsequent episodes, each about 15 minutes long, introduce us to fellow cadets and the adventures they get up to - and who knows, he might just end up making the occasional visit to the circus.
Happy listening my friends,
