New RUSC Server (1954 Computer!)

The new RUSC server!

Only joking! But who knows. Had IBM and Microsoft not come along we might all of had one of these sat in the corner of our room.

Just in case you can't read what the text underneath says I've typed it out below.

"Scientists from the RAND Corporation have created this model to illustrate how a "home computer" could look like in the year 2004. However the needed technology will not become economically feasible for the average home. Also the scientists readily admit that the computer will require not yet invented technology to actually work, but 50 years from now scientific progress is expected to solve these problems. With teletype interface and the Fortran language, the computer will be easy to use."

It looks like the RAND Corporation was a little inaccurate with their 1954 prediction. For starters there's no mouse, and what about some speakers for listening to old time radio shows. Yes we've certainly come a long way since then.

It gave us a chuckle even though the picture is in fact an urban myth you can check it out further at the following link:

It fooled me though then I did have a laptop computer in the eighties which was nicknamed a luggable and you certainly wouldn't have wanted it on your lap for long.

Happy listening my friends,

Ned Norris
