National Dog Week

National Dog Week

This week recognizes the 95th observance of National Dog Week!

My entire life, our family have always had dogs - and that's a LOT of best friends over the years - so I was ever so pleased to discover a Fibber McGee and Molly show this week titled National Dog Week

National Dog Week was launched by Captain William Lewis Judy, who purchased the Dog World magazine for just over $1,000 in 1923.

For the next four decades, his unique, poignant, and witty writing and editing style, combined with his genuine love for dogs, enlightened a growing population of dog owners across the nation.

A prolific dog show judge, breeder, and expert on dog law in America, Judy had a vision that dogs would serve humans in ways most had not imagined. He championed their use in military and police work, and in their value as assistance and therapy dogs.

In 1928, he launched the National Dog Week to honor man’s best friend, and today that movement continues, a testament to the legacy of this inspiring and gifted dog-enthusiast.

Thinking about man's best friend, it got me to wondering how many more old time radio shows include our favorite canine companions - other than the lead sled dog Yukon King from Challenge of the Yukon, and Rin Tin Tin of course!

Obviously, I used my clever search tool on RUSC (I don't talk about it much!) and searched for "Dog". Well, let me tell you, I was smiling from ear terrier, when I discovered we have the best dog-gone list around!

So if you've had a ruff day, why not paw yourself a drink, and listen to one of the 1200(!) dog related shows on RUSC today. If you click on this link, you'll find them all together on one page for you to listen online, or download and keep furever. It's the leashed I could do!

Happy listening my friends,

Ned Norris
