Mother's Day

Mother's Day

I was listening to an Aldrich Family show this week titled Mother's Day, and it was like being transported back in time to my days as a teenage boy.

Some of the similarities between myself and the brilliant character, Henry, from The Aldrich Family, have me alternating between crying with laughter, and cringing from likened memories! What a fantastic series it is - and it's one of the many reasons I love old time radio so much.

Do you ever have one of those 'moments' when you're listening to a show, and an old, previously forgotten memory pops back to the forefront of your mind?

Sadly my Mom is no longer around, but listening to the show today, Mother's Day, got me back to thinking of the gifts I used to save my pocket money for, when I was much younger.

I then promptly forgot about that (because I'm now much older!), and it wasn't until I was leafing through an old Radio Mirror magazine from the 1940s, that it popped back in my mind when I discovered lots of Mother's Day advertising. I must have really liked the suggestions given by them, as I remember buying my Mom nearly everything in there!

What gifts did you buy for your Mom when you were younger?

I created a poll for you to complete, with some suggestions from that Radio Mirror magazine, but would love to hear some of your stories too? Can you remember the gift your Mom loved the most on Mother's Day? Or maybe what gift you loved the most yourself back then?

If you can, be sure to let your mother know how special she is this Mother's Day, and if you're a Mom yourself, this coming Sunday, don't feel guilty about putting your feet up. Sit back and enjoy the shows Joy and I have put together for you on RUSC to celebrate the day.
