Memorial Day

Memorial Day

Memorial Day is a day to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice whilst serving their nation.

Its origins can be traced to the days following the Civil War, when many people from the North and South decorated the graves of fallen soldiers with flowers.

Decoration Day, as it was then known, was first observed officially on May 30, 1868. In 1882 its name was changed to Memorial Day and in 1971, President Nixon declared it a national holiday.

To commemorate Memorial Day, I have added a couple of wonderful shows today. The first is entitled Decoration Day Parade from the Vic and Sade series (live on Monday), and the second is entitled Memorial Day Memories, from the Against The Storm series. Joy and I have also put together several more appropriate shows.

I'm sure you'll enjoy these wonderful shows, and hope that whilst listening, you spare a thought not only for the men and woman who have served in the conflicts of the past century, but also to the men and woman who are serving in our armed forces today.

Happy listening my friends,

Ned Norris
