Mary Lee Robb Dies

Mary Lee Robb
15th February 1926 - 28th August 2006

The following message has been sent to us by Barry a loyal friend of RUSC:

"I just read in the newspaper of the death of Mary Lee Robb Cline who palyed Gildy's niece on The Great Gildersleeve. She died August 28th of heart failure at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs. I am attaching the news article.

I became particularly attached to her because I am an uncle (of just a little over 180 lbs that I will admit to) who has a loving and doting niece who reminds me very much of Mary. In the theater of my mind I know that the voice I am hearing is real but the image is of my own creation. I do not think that many really do resemble them in real life but upon seeing for the first time the picture of Mary in the obituary, I saw she was the perfect duplicate of my minds casting.

I googled Mary and got very little beyond her success in radio. Maybe I listen to too much OTR and have become very attached to the people who have brought me so much pleasure over the years. Unlike the stars of today that we know too much about, their lives seem like a library whose books are disappearing.

Thanks to you Ned, their work lives on. I truly hope that the youthful joy, loving concern and girlish pluck that I hear today in her voice were a part of her true inner character and gave her a full and wonderful life."

Thank you Barry for your comments on a wonderful actress who will live on in our memories as we listen to each wonderful episode she appeared in. I will add some extra Great Gildys over the weekend.
