Lux Presents - The Wizard Of Oz
Lux Presents - The Wizard Of Oz
I did consider saving this wonderful show The Wizard of Oz to add on Christmas day as that is the day that it was first broadcast in 1950. However, in recognition of the birth of L. Frank Baum (1856 - 1919) the author of this classic children’s literature I decided to add it to RUSC on the 15th May 2005 to mark the beginning of the 150th year since his birth.
The original story entitled The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz was first published in April 1900 and L. Frank Baum wrote more than a dozen sequels to this.
"It aspires to being a modernized fairy tale," Baum wrote, "in which the wonderment and joy are retained and the heart-aches and nightmares left out."
Metro Goldwyn Meyer turned this book in to a screen classic in 1939 starring Judy Garland as Dorothy and Lux radio Theater produced this wonderful radio version some years later again starring Judy Garland in her original screen role.
Baum said "My books are intended for all those whose hearts are young, no matter what their ages may be" and I know that no matter what age you are you will still enjoy this heart warming story of The Wizard Of Oz.
