Listener Recommendations

I received this e-mail the other day regarding two recent additions to RUSC. If you haven't already listened to these shows, along with David, I can highly recommend them. Here's what David said:

There are a couple of shows you put up in the past week that were exceptional - that went past "bedtime story" to Art. One was what sounds like the very first Marlowe - the one with Van Heflin (pictured opposite) and the Santa Ana winds.  If there is a museum of noir somewhere in the world, this belongs there. The voice was perfect, the cadence was perfect, the storyline and script were perfect, the music was perfect and the supporting cast was perfect.  The problem, now, is that any subsequent shows I listen to will never measure up... it's back to "bedtime story."

The other remarkable show was the recent dragnet issue. It really captured more than any other episode I've heard to date the original idea of Dragnet  - to take the listener on a journey through the case, the dead ends, the converging threads, the very ordinary people drawn into it - and expose the listener to that tedium without being tedious, almost like a documentary.  This show just seemed to do it better than the others.  Perhaps there was so much time invested in detail on the dead ends that, as  a listener, I started to share Friday's ups and downs as the squad worked its way through the case.

Also, both of these had superb audio quality.  I don't know whether you just got lucky, or if you have some new tools for restoring dynamic range and fidelity, but it was great.

Keep up the good work.

If you click on the links above you can listen to each of these wonderful stories. David went on to say, Listen to the Marlowe one when you know you won't be interrupted or distracted, it does a great job of creating an atmosphere, and I certainly agree.

Happy listening my friends,

Ned NorrisIn response to the above I have received some e-mails from some of you who prefer The Adventures of Philip Marlowe version of Red Wind starring Gerald Mohr. If you would like to listen to The Adventures of Philip Marlowe Red Wind starring Gerald Mohr please click on the link and then for a bit of added interest maybe you could partake in the RUSC Survey mini poll opposite.
