Letter From a Friend

I guess it is only natural that we all have our own favorites. Along with Gunsmoke, Edgar Bergen & Charlie McCarthy, Jack Benny, You Bet Your Life (Oh the list is too long to note them all), two of my most favorite series are I suppose the lesser known Damon Runyon Theater and Bob & Ray.

I remember as a teen and into my early twenties seeing Bob & Ray on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. They were apparently one of his favorite comedy acts and I thought they were hilarious. So thanks for the recent additions. As you know, I have been a member of RUSC for quite a long time now and I guess like most of the membership I probably downloaded all of the shows available in my favorite series during my first year or so.

However, every once in a while during the years I have dipped into your fabulous library and tried something new I was unfamiliar with. In doing that I have been lucky enough to find more shows that are now included in my favorites list. Shows like The Halls of Ivy, Mr. President, The Six Shooter to name a few.

Most notable of these adventures into the unknown has been The Damon Runyon Theater. I discovered this brilliant piece of classic radio a few years ago and have listened to everything at RUSC time and time again as I sit by the fire in the backyard. So you can imagine how thrilled I was to see the recent additions. When I listen to these masterworks of short stories, I close my eyes and am transported back to that famous avenue in New York as Broadway narrates his story. Occasionally brilliantly funny, often with a thrilling twist to the end and sometimes an emotional tug at the heartstrings like Bred for Battle will bring a tear or two.

For me, The Damon Runyon Theater represents some of the very best in Classic Old Time Radio.

Thank again from an always-grateful member, Graham Ferguson

Happy listening my friends,

Ned Norris
