It was a dark and stormy night...

It was a dark and stormy night...

That's pretty much the introduction for dozens, possibly even hundred of old-time radio shows.

"You are driving down a country road; the rain is falling in torrents. In the distance you can see a dark shape coming toward you."

Or how about this one.

"In the bedroom of an otherwise deserted old house lies a young woman. Outside a storm howls like a thousand banshees. The shutters bang on the rain soaked windows. There is a knock on the door ..."

You get the idea I'm sure. If you like old-time radio shows you've probably heard a great many shows that start in a similar vain.

What is it that makes these kind of drama-noir shows so popular. Surely, after sixty or more years, the stories of dark and stormy nights would be old hat.

I was going to answer this question myself, but then I thought it was about time RUSC members started to make use of that magical 'Add a Comment' link below.

So, why not take a moment now and let Joy and I know what you think of these spooky old-time radio thrillers and mysteries, and maybe whilst you are at it you can shed some light on why they seem to be as popular now as they ever were.

I can't wait to read your thoughts. Just click on the 'Add Comment' link and share your thoughts.

Happy listening my friends,
