It's Babe Ruth Day!

It's Babe Ruth Day!

This special celebration began on April 27th 1947, when baseball fans around the country came together to celebrate the first 'Babe Ruth Day' at the Yankee Stadium, honoring one of baseball’s all-time greatest players.

With such a big character, the Babe was always going to be portrayed in many old time radio shows, and he even had an entire series dedicated to his legend.

The Adventures of Babe Ruth, is a series of short fictional tales of the life of the great baseball player. They border on being modern day fables, each one with a simple yet important message to put across to the audience.

Despite the simple plots and sugar-sweet story lines they are still most enjoyable to listen to and the sound quality is (on the whole) excellent considering their age.

There are lots more shows about the 'Sultan of Swat' on RUSC, and some of those even star the big man himself! You can add these to your playlist by doing a search on RUSC (my favorite feature - as you probably know!).

An interesting biography into his early life can be heard in Big Boy, a broadcast which is set at the time George Herman Ruth was a young boy, running amok in his home town. He was later sent to St Mary's Industrial School for Boys, an orphanage and reformatory. It's there his life was turned around, until he signed for his first baseball team in 1914.

This selection of shows should keep you busy whilst you celebrate the day of one of baseball's biggest legends!

Happy listening my friends,

Ned Norris
