Housewife Day

Housewife Day

Here's a observance I never expected to see - a special day to recognize the importance of stay-at-home wives and moms - because Mother's Day just isn't enough...

Now, although I initially suspected that Joy had invented this and added it to my calendar - I have since discovered (along with a clipped ear from Joy for being cheeky!) that this isn't the case, and Housewife Day really is an official day, celebrated on 3rd November each year.

Also referred to as "Retro" Housewife Day, on this date we celebrate the wonderful, caring creatures, who build and enrich strong family environments, and who help to instill family values and good character.

These days, housewife is a pretty old term, hailing back to the days when one income could support the family in a manner of comfort. It was also a time when women did not have equal rights.

While these days are long gone, women's views of working or staying at home, fall on both sides of the fence. The decision to be a "housewife", or stay-at-home mom, is still preferred by many, but unfortunately, income needs often necessitate going to work.

But lets celebrate and thank all of the ladies who choose to stay home and tend to the house and family!

I will celebrate this day, by honoring my beloved wife, Joy, and thanking her for staying home for the family, raising our two sons. Without a doubt, our children grew up much better for it - and I myself, benefited from the many sacrifices she made by staying home.

In old time radio, who was your favorite housewife? I think perhaps Molly McGee is the one I am most fond of - her lovely kind nature reminds me of my own cherished wife - who I'm hoping reads this!

Happy listening my friends,

Ned Norris
