Harlan Stone
Rest In Peace "Jughead" - Harlan Stone
1931 - 20th February 2007
Harlan (Hal) Stone, a long-time radio actor best-known as "Jughead" on the Archie Andrews show, died at the age of 75 on Wednesday 20th February 2007 after heart surgery.
Hal enjoyed a career in the entertainment industry that spanned nearly fifty years. He started as a three year-old child model and at age eight began acting on the Broadway stage appearing in many Theater Productions of the early 1940's. He also appeared on numerous Network Radio programs for about fifteen years, such as Big Town, Death Valley Days, Let's Pretend and the Aldrich Family. But the role he is fondly remembered by old time radio fans for is his nine years as co-star on the Adventures of Archie Andrews program as Archie's best friend "Jughead" Jones.
Some early live TV appearances followed his radio days, and upon his discharge from the Air Force after the Korean War, Hal obtained a degree in Speech/Drama from Hofstra University with advanced study of Television Production at Columbia University. Ultimately he became a television producer-director for some twenty-five years, culminating that career by establishing and serving as Board Chairman of Centrex Productions, Inc., a major New York based television and videotape Production Company.
After retiring from TV production in 1980, Hal focused on numerous other creative activities, encompassing a variety of art forms. An established painter and sculptor, Hal was also a published writer. His first book, Aw... Relax, Archie! Re-Laxx, is a memoir about his early, varied career in the entertainment industry.
On a personal note, Hal was married to Dorothy Dobson-Stone. He leaves behind two grown children from a former marriage and three grandchildren.
